The Multi Agency Team of the Government's Family and Sexual Violence Work Programme has sent out an update.

The update includes a report on the views from the Family Violence Summit held in June 2017 and associated online survey.

It also includes an April 2017 update to Cabinet’s Social Policy Committee on the work programme of the Ministerial Group on Family Violence and Sexual Violence.

Summit report

The Family Violence Summit was held in Wellington on 7 June 2017. It was attended by 120 people.

The Summit was invitation-based so an online survey was also created to allow anyone to give their views on the four Summit themes or to make a general comment. 87 people responded.

The report Family Violence Summit 2017: Summary of views from the day and online submissions (New Zealand Government, 2017) summarises information from the Summit and the survey under four themes:

  • Helping children and their whānau to live without family violence
  • Kaupapa Māori whānau-centred approaches
  • Taking opportunities to intervene earlier
  • Supporting seniors, people with disabilities and migrant communities

Further information about the Summit, including video of Ministers and keynote speakers, is available on the Ministry of Justice website.
