Dr Russell Wills, current Children's Commissioner has appeared on TV One's Close Up to talk about the need for collaboration to eliminate child abuse.
Dr Wills said that over the last three years attitudes towards child abuse awareness had slowly been changing.
"The 'It's Not Ok' campaign together with the repeal of the Crimes Act section 55 (anti-smacking bill) three years ago - have meant that more people are seeking help, more notifications by friends and families to Child, Youth and Family than ever before.
"We've had a doubling in notifications in the last five years - that's all good. But we still have a group in society who thinks it's ok to be violent towards women and children."
