Two significant appointments have been made over recent months at the Ministry of Social Development.

Outgoing chief executive of the Ministry of Social Development Peter Hughes has been replaced by former Internal Affairs chief executive Brendan Boyle, who has begun his five year term with the Ministry.

Mr Boyle has 28 years experience in the public service.

He led the Auckland governance reforms, as well as the integration of the National Library of New Zealand and Archives New Zealand into the Department of Internal Affairs and Land Information New Zealand's Landonline project.

Furthermore, outgoing head of Family and Community Services (FACS) Richard Wood has been replaced by former chief executive of Barnardos Murray Edridge.

Prior to his time at Barnardos, Mr Edrige worked for a number of years in the Electricity and Gas sector, as Business Manager for Radio New Zealand, and as General Manager Corporate Services for The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand.

Mr Wood will be retiring in December from his position as Deputy Chief Executive of Family and Community Services within the Ministry of Social Development. He has worked in the public service for 47 years, and has a history of involvement in family violence prevention.

Mr Wood has been announced as the incoming Chair of the Taskforce for Action on Violence within Families.
