The Ministry of Justice has launched a new crime survey. The survey will be run annually.

The New Zealand Crime & Victims Survey (NZCVS) aims to ask 8000 people over age 15 about their experiences of crime. This includes both reported and unreported crime. The new survey has been funded for the next three 3 years.

Ministry of Justice Chief Executive Andrew Bridgman said "This is a national survey running every year. It is a great leap forward from previous crime surveys and gathers a much greater range and depth of information."

Mr Bridgman said for 2018, the survey will specifically focus on family violence.

The Ministry of Justice and CBG Public Sector Surveying are jointly running the survey. The first results will be published at the end of 2018 or early 2019.

It replaces the former New Zealand Crime and Safety Survey (NZCASS) which has been run every three to four years. You can search the NZFVC library for New Zealand crime and safety surveys to find data from the earlier surveys.

See the NZFVC family violence statistics page for other sources of family violence data.
