The United Nations have released their draft report of the working group on the universal periodic review of New Zealand.

Many countries expressed concerns around the level of domestic violence in New Zealand and in particular that Māori are significantly over-represented as victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. The UN recommended that New Zealand identify a more accurate measure of the extent of domestic violence, thereby providing a tool to better determine the success of domestic violence prevention and intervention programmes. They also recommended that New Zealand take effective legal, institutional and awareness-building measures to combat domestic violence and to increase efforts to combat all forms of violence against women.
