The Government is seeking public feedback on the establishment of a Child Sex Offender Register.

The Child Protection (Child Sex Offender Register) Bill passed its first reading in Parliament on 15 September 2015. The Bill "aims to reduce sexual reoffending against child victims, and the risk posed by serious child sex offenders by providing government agencies with the information needed to monitor child sex offenders in the community and providing up-to-date information that assists the Police to more rapidly resolve cases of child sex offending."

Submissions to the Social Services Select Committee close on 28 October 2015. The Committee findings are due to be reported back to Parliament by 15 March 2016. Visit the Parliament website for more information on how to make a submission.

Background information on the Bill and further research and resources are available in a previous Clearinghouse story.
