The Family Violence Death Review Committee, established in late 2008 to examine family violence deaths, has released its first report which puts the latest annual toll up to September 2009 at 41 deaths.
The Family Violence Death Review Committee was established following a recommendation of the Taskforce for Action on Violence within Families and is located within the Ministry of Health. The Committee’s goal is to participate in prevention of family violence and family violence deaths. It aims to contribute to the making safer of communities through strategic planning to reduce family violence, and by reporting and making recommendations at a local and national level on systems, policy and practice to reduce family violence deaths.
