Police have released provisional data from the use of the Ontario Domestic Assault Risk Assessment (ODARA) tool to 3 News. ODARA is a Canadian risk assessment tool New Zealand Police have been using in family violence since July 2012.

ODARA was used 14,000 times in the first year. It ranks an offender from zero to 13, 13 being the highest level of risk, the most likely to re-assault. 40% of those screened scored seven or higher.

Women's Refuge spokesperson Kiri Hannifin said, "We know that New Zealand offenders score very highly compared to our Canadian counterparts and we're very concerned about that." For further information, see the previous Clearinghouse news story here.
