A Special Collection on Domestic Violence and Health Care has been updated by the US National Online Resource Center on Violence Against Women (VAWnet). Special Collections collate selected resources on a specific topic related to violence against women and provide contextual information to encourage critical analysis.
The Domestic Violence and Health Care Special Collection highlights the unique position of health care providers in preventing or responding to domestic violence through identification, documentation, safety planning and referral. The opportunity for health care providers to engage in primary prevention with patients is also discussed.
The Collection is organised by the following five areas:
- the impact of domestic violence on health;
- public health approaches to domestic violence prevention;
- guidelines and issues concerning identification and intervention by health care providers;
- information about collaboration between health care providers and domestic violence advocates; and
- training.
The Collection draws heavily from work by the National Health Resource Center on Domestic Violence and was developed in collaboration with the Minnesota Center Against Violence and Abuse, in consultation with te National Resource Center on Domestic Violence.
