The United States National Sexual Violence Resource Center has released an advocates' guide for adressing sexual violence in the military.

Sexual Violence in the Military: A Guide for Civilian Advocates is designed for advocates working in community-based sexual assault programmes. The guide provides an understanding of military sexual violence and offers resources to support collaboration with military in responding to survivors and preventing sexual violence.

The resource includes talking points which describe what is currently occurring in the military, the sexual violence aftermath and prevention developments. An infographic is also provided which visually displays some of the statistics presented in the guide.

Sexual violence in the military has been in the media in the US, highlighting an increase in unwanted sexual contact complaints involving military personnel and increased pressure from US government to make changes. A National Online Resource Center on Violence Against Women news blog discusses how the military can address the issue and provides relevant reports and resources.
