Review of Police highlights need for victim service improvement

The annual government Performance Improvement Framework review of New Zealand Police has highlighted the need to reinforce a victim focus and improve the treatment of victims.

The review cited the recent 'Roast Busters' case, saying "Public concern regarding the 'Roast Busters' investigation has highlighted the need for Police to meet public expectations regarding victim focus and treatment". 

Police Commissioner Peter Marshall said Police are "currently focussing a great deal of energy on improving the service provided to victims". This includes enhancements to Police family violence notes made on files and a project to improve the recording and accessibility of family violence information to staff on mobile devices.

Performance Improvement Framework reviews are a joint State Services Commission, Treasury and Department of of the Prime Minister and Cabinet initative which aim to improve the public sector.
