A new Māori health service that aims to address family violence and abuse in Auckland has been launched.
The government funded service is a whānau intervention program that will support individuals and whānau in the Auckland District Health Board area.

The Hohourongo (family violence) service comes under the Te Hononga O Tāmaki Me Hoturoa Primary Health Organisation and will run for three years.

Hohourongo recognises that most whānau affected by violence need specific help from agencies across the health, social services, education, housing and employment sectors.
It will work in collaboration with family violence organisation shine* through a formal referral process as well as with community organisations identified in the highest need areas in Auckland.

Associate Minister of Health Tariana Turia launched the service on Friday 13th May, 2011 at Manawanui Marae in Pt Chevalier.
