The Tauiwi Caucus of Te Ohaakii a Hine - National Network Ending Sexual Violence Together (TOAH-NNEST) hosted the second annual national sexual violence prevention hui 'Imagining the Solution' on 9-10 September 2013. The hui focused on the primary prevention of sexual violence, showcasing primary prevention strategies, activities and programmes that help build communities free of sexual violence.

The presentations are now available to download.

Keynote presentations included:

  • Preventing Sexual Abuse of all Children - Ken Clearwater, Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse Trust (MSSAT)
  • Using the Media to Change the World - Sandra Dickson, Tauiwi Prevention Project, TOAH-NNEST

Panels discussed Mahi whānau Māori – Working with Māori and Intersectionalities - Power and Sexual Violence. In the Great Slutwalk Feminist Debate, speakers argued the topic 'Slutwalk is a great idea. Challenging the word slut as negative is key to preventing sexual violence.'

Workshop streams included:

  • Preventing Child Sexual Abuse
  • School-Based Programmes;
  • Changing the World; and
  • Intersectionalities.

Regional Training Hui

To help build capacity in sexual violence prevention programming, the Tauiwi Prevention Project will be holding two regional training hui in Auckland and Christchurch in the first week of December 2013.

There will be a two – tiered accreditation process available: 

  1. Accreditation in delivering the programme in your community, if you are currently employed by a member agency for TOAH-NNEST (from the specialist sexual violence sector)
  2. Certification of attendance, if you are currently employed outside the specialist sexual violence sector.
