The National Coalition of Specialist Domestic Violence Service Providers, in partnership with Te Ohaakii a Hine – National Network Ending Sexual Violence Together (TOAH-NNEST), are hosting a national conference on sexual and domestic violence prevention and intervention in September.
The conference organisers are inviting expressions of interest for presenting at the conference. The deadline to submit proposals has been extended to 10 May 2019.
The conference will take place on 12-13 September 2019 at Te Wharewaka o Pōneke, Te Whanganui-ā-Tara (Wellington).
The conference is called “Challenging Conversations and Complicated Spaces: Titiro whakamuri, kia anga whakamua – Sexual and Domestic Violence Specialist Services reflecting forward.”
It will highlight and showcase the work of specialist sexual and domestic violence services. It also seeks to provide a platform to engage in kōrero to further improve responses, work together more effectively and create positive change for tamariki, wāhine, tāne and whānau across Aotearoa.
The key themes of the conference are:
- "Kaupapa Māori approaches to ending violence.
- Te Tiriti o Waitangi: implications and responsibilities for agencies and individuals.
- Collaborative approaches and challenges.
- The value and importance of specialist services."
A number of possible areas of interest to consider for submitting a presentation proposal are listed:
- "Kaupapa Māori and Indigenous research, and research that specifically informs issues within Aotearoa.
- Advocacy, prevention and social change.
- Evidencing the work and measuring the impact of specialist service providers.
- Emerging practices in service provision.
- The role of specialist sexual and domestic violence services in an environment where intervention and prevention is 'everyone’s business'.

The National Coalition of Specialist Domestic Violence Service Providers is a partnership between the National Collective of Independent Women's Refuges (NCIWR) and Te Kupenga Whakaoti Mahi Patunga - National Network of Stopping Violence Services (TKWMP-NNSVS), established in 2018.
