The University of Auckland and Auckland University of Technology (AUT) will both offer postgraduate violence prevention studies again in 2018.

Tertiary study is an opportunity to further knowledge and gain a qualification. Courses are designed for people currently working in or considering working in the field. Brief information about the courses is provided below.

University of Auckland

The University of Auckland offers a range of qualifications, beginning with a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science with a violence pathway. It consists of two 30 points courses, one taken in each semester:

Interpersonal and Family Violence POPLHLTH 769 (Semester 1) Course Coordinator Associate Professor Janet Fanslow
Dates 2018: Wed and Thurs, Mar 14 and 15, Apr 18 and 19, May 16 and 17, 9-5pm

Domestic Violence: Challenges and Responses SOCCHFAM 700 (Semester 2) - Course Director Associate Professor Liz Beddoe
Dates 2018: 2 and 3 August, 13 and 14 September, 9am to 4pm

Auckland University of Technology (AUT)

AUT offers a range of qualifications, beginning with a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science in Violence and Trauma Studies. Students complete three papers through a block course in March and another in August:

COMH 801 Theory and Principles of Violence and Trauma
(Semester 1 & 2, 30 pts)
COMH 802 Effective Practice in Violence and Trauma 
(Semester 2 - 15 pts)
COMH 803 Agents of change 
(Semester 1 - 15 pts)

The course can be completed part-time or full time and is designed for distance study. Further study options are available.
