It’s not OK Campaign new TV ads will go to air for five weeks between 22 August and 16 October.

These ads encourage friends and family to reach out to people living with violence whether they are being hurt, or using violence. This is the third round of ads for the Campaign, building on the first two rounds which established that "Family Violence is not OK" and "It is OK to Ask for Help". The new ads are based on research commissioned by the Campaign and have been audience tested.

The main messages are:

It is OK to help
How help is offered is as important as the type of help offered.
Research commissioned by the Campaign showed that some people are already helping, and others want to help when they know someone who is living with violence, but often aren’t sure what to do.

The ads will be supported by new information on the Campaign website at www.areyouok.org.nz as well as posters and a How Can You Help brochure already available.

There are a range of resources available to download or order from the website.

Phone operators answering the Campaign’s information line 0800 456 450 have been trained to give advice to people wanting to offer help but unsure of the best approach.

The research reports on helping are available at: http://www.msd.govt.nz/about-msd-and-our-work/publications-resources/res...

The Campaign team would love to hear any stories about helping and what has worked, so they can share them with others. If you would like any more information, or have a story to share, please get in touch at areyouok@msd.govt.nz
