Letter iconDr Kim McGregor, Executive Director, Rape Prevention Education is calling for the Taskforce on Sexual Violence to be reinstated in an open letter to the Prime Minister. The taskforce was previously operational for just two years (2007-2009) and recommendations made have yet to be implemented. Calls are now being made for a whole of government, cross party and ongoing approach to address the issue of sexual violence in our communities.

The letter addresses the need to avoid further sexual attacks on our children in particular and requests that the Prime Minister: “implement the recommendations in the Taskforce for Action on Sexual Violence report, reinstate the Taskforce for Action on Sexual Violence, approve and resource the drafted National Sexual Violence Prevention Plan, replace the $6 million saved from cuts to our services, and provide our services with realistic and sustainable funding so that we can provide New Zealanders with the specialist services they need to work to prevent and deal with the huge levels of sexual violence that every community in the country deals with every day.”
