Deepen your knowledge of the work being done in the specialist teams working with adolescents who have experienced sexual harm.

Sexual abuse takes place within families, homes, institutions, schools, workplaces and throughout our community. There are also opportunities for prevention and to support young people that have experienced sexual harm. This training day is designed to deepen understanding on sexual harm, provide professionals the opportunity to develop their skills and add to their knowledge.

Topics for the day:

  • Community responses to sexual harm/ assault (HELP Crisis Response)

  • Trauma informed approaches

  • Hymens and virginity (Health)

  • Medical management of adolescent sexual assault (Health)

  • Child exploitation (NZ Police)

  • Protecting Children from Child Exploitation (ECPAT)

Te Puaruruhau is the Child Protection Multi-Disciplinary team for Starship Health. They are co-located in Puawaitahi ("Blossoming in Unity") with the Auckland Central Child Protection Police team and Oranga Tamariki Clinical Services.
