This workshop for workers and supervisors provides an in-depth look at the concept of professional dangerousness in relation to child and family work and explores individual and organisation dangerous dynamics that can occur. It offers strategies to prevent professional dangerousness from an individual and agency perspective.

 

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Describe the concept of professional dangerousness
  • Name individual and agency dangerous dynamics
  • Describe the concepts of hostage theory and the professional accommodation syndrome
  • Identify individual and agency strategies to prevent professional dangerousness
  • Apply the concepts of self-awareness, self compassion, and reflexivity.

Dr Nicki Weld, a national social work advisor for Stand Children Services, completing doctoral study at the University of Auckland, and a Director of CNZN Ltd, New Zealand.
